How to Show Your Love for the Skin You’re In   Leave a comment

Age is just a number. How you feel and how you look reveal more about your youth to yourself and others. There are things we can do simply and naturally to create a youthful appearance and feel from the inside out! What are some of the warning signs of aging skin?

Dry skin (are you dehydrated? Natural oils in the skin also decrease with age and may also be caused by the products you use.)

Pronounced wrinkling and sagging skin (loss of collagen and elastin due to sun damage, abrasion, frowning and squinting)

Enlarged pores (yes… your skin has an underlying support system. Aging skin prompts the enlargement of pores contributing to a rough, uneven look).

Redness (actually clusters of tiny broken capillaries underneath the skin)

Roughness (oxidants produced from sunlight, diet and toxins destroy the collagen and elastin)

In addition, what are some of the products you use on your skin? Are they really safe, do they contribute to the HEALTH of your skin and do they WORK?

Remember the skin is the largest organ in the body. What you put ON it gets IN it. Here’s a short list of ingredients to AVOID. prestonelowtox

Isopropyl Alcohol- a solvent in shellac, also used in anti-freeze

Polyethylene Glycol- dissolves oil and grease as in oven cleaners

Propylene Glycol- straight anti-freeze

Mineral Oil- a byproduct of the distillation of gasoline from crude oil. Very cheap and abundant, it is a common ingredient in cosmetics, clogging pores, acting as a thin plastic layer on the skin. Absorbed in the body, it steals the fat soluble vitamins creating deficiencies. It also can be a cause of lung issues leading to lipoid pneumonia. Aghhh!

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate- used in garage floor cleaners and degreasers, these are very corrosive. They penetrate into the eyes, brain, heart and liver and show long-term retention in body tissues. Studies show that SLS prevents children’s eyes from developing properly and causes cataracts in adults.

DEA and MEA- Common in cosmetics and soaps as surfactants diathanolamines are slow to biodegrade and react with natural nitrogen oxides and pollutants in the air to form nitrosamines which are powerful cancer causing agents.

Parabens- the most common ingredient in personal care products is used as a preservative. However, it acts like estrogen disrupting normal hormone functions which may also cause cancer.
